Garden pigeons

We lost a pair of garden pigeons

For a quite few months there were a big fat pigeon and his wife living in the tree in our back garden. They usually went out in the early morning, and came back at our dinner time. During daytime, they flied around the estate and perched on the tops of the roofs of our neighbours. At times I found them flipping into our next neighbour’s garden, where a couple of bird feeders were hung out.

After having a good day out, they usually came back at evenings. While sitting at dinner table and having our meals, we enjoy watching the pigeons perching on the tree branches through the french window. Occasionally they jump up and down from one branch to another one, most of times they stayed still. Sometimes we just saw branches and leaves moving, we knew they were there. Once we found that they just hided behind the leaves and watched us.

They knew we were harmless, as they often came down to the ground, and drunk the rain water in a little pot near the window. They did the same even when we were inside the garden. Day in day out the pigeons became our garden pigeons, and we and pigeons were friends.

Our garden is not particular big, that tree keeps growing and growing. It became a concern for us. Last weekend, we decided to trim the tree down a bit. Before doing that , the tree was thoroughly checked, there was no bird nest within it. When the tree was being trimmed, our budgie was staring fixedly at the whole process from the living room window, and became increasingly irritated, and kept shouting and screaming. Apparently she was not happy. We just wondered why…

During the evening time, the pigeons came back. They circled a few times around the tree, as the branches were shortened, there were no more hidden places for them. They rest on one of our neighbours’ roof for a while, then circled around the tree for a few more times. They just could not understand this…, finally they went. We never see them again, they are gone.

Sadly we lost our garden pigeons forever.
